About CFL
December of 2005, the Holy Spirit revealed to Pastor Samuel J. Thompson that he was to organize another Baptist church. Pastor Thompson putting his faith and trust in God began the process of organizing a church. His inspiration was that “Christian Fellowship of Love Baptist Church” should be the church’s name. This was derived from I John 4:7-12, (which reads in part) “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God, and every one that loveth is born of God and knoweth God… if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time, if we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfect in us.”
The first worship service occurred on Sun. Feb. 5, 2006, with a church school attendance of 161 and worship service attendance of over 300. Ministries were organized and assumed their respective places on Sun. Feb. 12, 2006. The church commenced with Rev. James Marshall (Asst. to the Pastor), Rev. Charlie Barber, Rev. Annie Williams, Rev. Kenneth Marshall, 14 deacons, and six trustees. (In the life of Christian Fellowship, we have also had the service of Rev. JoAnn Thomas Plummer, Rev. George Harton, Rev. LeRoy Burden, Rev. Patricia Stallworth, Rev. Mary Holcomb, Rev. James Moseley, Rev. Jeffrey Knight, and Rev. Maurice Jackson.) With a desire for a permanent home. We were led to the current location at 22400 Grand River. We marched into our new church on Sun. June 4, 2006.
Following the retirement of Pastor Samuel J. Thompson, the Lord blessed the Christian Fellowship of Love Baptist Church with our new pastor, Rev. Dr. Terry Thomas. Pastor Thomas was installed on April 24, 2016. Christian Fellowship of Love continues to travel the “Journey of Faith” under the leadership of Pastor Terry Thomas, who seeks to maintain the strong foundation upon which CFL was built. Since 2016 the church has added technology to the sanctuary costing over $25K (tv monitors, equipment for streaming), added new mechanicals (replaced a boiler and paid off the $45K loan), installed new steel doors throughout the building, other repairs and enhancements (total replacement of the roof and remolded the fellowship hall)), and the mortgage has been reduced by $300,000.00.
While the ministerial staff has changed over the years, we have always been blessed with a group of committed servants who have served well the Christian Fellowship church family. Aside from the Pastor, there are currently four members of the Ministerial Staff, i.e., Rev. JoAnn Thomas-Plummer, Rev. Annie Williams, Rev. Charlie Barber, and Evangelist Michelle Hyche. There are currently 10 Deacons and 6 Trustees. The Church has an array of ministries to support the needs of the congregation and the community. CFL has served as a source for learning for the congregation, lay leaders, and ministers in their moves to higher heights for the Lord.
